What does a private certifier in Sydney do?
A private certifier (registered building surveyor) assesses your project against the National Construction Code and your conditions of consent, issues the Construction Certificate or Complying Development Certificate, carries out critical-stage inspections as Principal Certifier, and issues the Occupation Certificate at completion.
How much does a Construction Certificate cost in NSW?
Fees depend on the building class, value of works and the number of inspections required. Send your plans and consent to Metropolitan Building Approvals and we will return a written fee proposal for your project.
How long does a Complying Development Certificate take?
A CDC is typically determined in around 10 business days once complete documentation is lodged and any required neighbour notification period has run.
What is the difference between a Part and Final Occupation Certificate?
A Part Occupation Certificate allows part of a building to be occupied while other works continue. A Final Occupation Certificate is issued when the whole building is complete, compliant and fit for occupation.
Which areas of Sydney and NSW do you cover?
We are based in Parramatta and certify projects across Greater Sydney — including the CBD, Inner West, Northern Beaches, North Shore, Western Sydney, the Hills District, South West Sydney and the Sutherland Shire — as well as regional New South Wales.
Can you certify Class 1 to Class 10 buildings?
Yes. Our accreditation covers Class 1 houses and dwellings through to Class 10 non-habitable structures — including Class 2 apartment buildings, commercial, retail, industrial and warehouse developments, plus sheds, garages, carports and swimming pools.
Do battery, solar and EV charging installations need a CDC?
Many battery energy storage systems, solar installations and EV charging setups can be approved as complying development rather than through a full development application. We assess your proposal against the Codes SEPP and relevant standards and, where it complies, issue the CDC so the installation can proceed quickly.
